i did a web search and saw that there is a honda recall for this exact same problem and other worktwo honda dealers had no idea what to do other than to with honda civics and other models, including 1998. My mechanic first replaced the alternator but the problem continues. it is impossible to predict when it will quit - weather and road conditions are not consistent when it fails each time. When i finally come a stop and try to re-start, it immediately re-starts and runs okay. this has happened many times, including while driving on the highway and busy state roads, creating havoc and extremely dangerous stituations as other cars swerve and angrily honk horns to avoid a collision. the radio, heater fan, brake lights still work but not the signal lights. there is no stuttering, stalling, or engine misfires, it quietly just quits. While drving the vehicle, the engine just quits. does a honda dealership have to fix the recall in order for it to say fixed ? cause it wasn't in the car fax that they gave me.i would really like to know who fixed the ignition problem because it seems like this car is having the same symptoms again.electrical part of the ignition switch. went to honda web sight and typed in my vin number. drove is getting scary, i've put new spark plugs, ignition wires, to correct the problem of the motor stopping before i knew about the recalls on this year civics. first time it ever died while driving at highway speeds.put hazards on and parked on the side.parked and then started it once. on the highway driving about 60 - 65 miles an hour car motor stops. 1:30 pm started car up and was heading home. stopped at sheetz gas station before work, motor stopped running but all the lights and radio were still on, parked and started it once.went to work. at 5:00 pm car started up fine, six houses down to the stop sign and the car stopped again, parked the car and started the car right up. this was in february.on aptuesday, needed to crank the car two times to get it to started in the mourning, in the afternoon after work at 1:30 pm it needed to be started two times to start. it started right back up.2nd sign, while entering the highway it just quietly stopped running. first sign, i did not no it had a recall the car and just thought it was a fluke. Just recently purchased my 1998 honda civic cx hatchback about 2 months ago, it had 112,608 miles, while reversing out of the dealership it stalled. why is there no recall or notification from honda? in addition, the repair of all of these lines is very costly to the owners. vehicle owners need to be notified of the dangerous and potentially deadly symptom. the vehicle is currently awaiting to be serviced.īased on searches online for honda vehicles, this is a fairly common occurrence especially in areas with high usage of salt such as the mid-west. the fuel lines are pipes 15, 16 and 19 in the fuel line diagram with fuel line 19 leaking. line 11 is currently leaking leaving no brake pressure for the entire system. the corroded brake lines are lines 9 and 11 in the 1998 honda civic lx brake diagram. in addition, the three fuel lines are also severely rusted, and fuel is leaking from the return line. on inspection discovered the two brake lines under the protective plastic were corroded. drove remaining distance at 5 mph with parking brake only. car was approximately two miles from home. very lucky that no vehicle or pedestrian were hit. on stopping the vehicle brakes failed and the brake pedal hit the floor. While driving, the vehicle needed to make a hard stop.
